f you would like become a CPR & First Aid Instructor or if you would like to have one or more of your employees to become CPR Instructors, this is the class for you!  

Intended Audience:

Health care Providers, Current instructors, Professional educators

Prerequisites:  Current, valid student-level certification in the training program you wish to teach. If you are not currently certified, please call us to discuss adding the student-level certification that you are required to hold.

Successful Completion (certification)

  1. BulletWritten exam: Required for course completion, a score of 84% or better on written test.

  2. BulletSkill check off proficiency testing during the course.

Course Details:

Length:  Approximately 16 hours

Training Center Affiliation: All instructors must be and remain affiliated with an approved American Safety & Health Institute Training Center for their instructor certification to remain valid. 

There are 2 options for Training Center affiliation when taking this course:

OPTION 1) Train under Oahu CPR Training as your Training Center. 

  1. By having Oahu CPR Training as your Training Center:

  2. BulletOahu CPR Training will pay for your ASHI Instructor Application fees and file all necessary paperwork.

  3. Affiliation with Oahu CPR Training's Training Center allows you the use of our manikins, AED trainers, and other equipment needed to conduct your classes at a nominal fee per student. Equipment rental availability is on a first come first served basis.

  4. Oahu CPR Training pays for your instructor renewal fees to ASHI which are due every two years.

  5. Ability to receive class bookings that fit within your availability schedule from our online booking system for classes you are authorized to instruct and receive 90% of the payment from the class after expenses.

  6. BulletAccess to our Online Training and Information System (OTIS) database.

  7. BulletBenefits of our Instructor Mentoring Program as you progress through your training and teaching your first courses.

  8. BulletAs your Training Center, we are responsible for ordering your textbooks and certification cards, and processing all of your paperwork.

OPTION 2) Develop your own Training Center.        

  1. If you wish to develop your own Training Center:

  2. BulletYou will need to purchase all of your own equipment and supplies which meet ASHI requirements.

  3. BulletYou will be required to process your own paperwork.

  4. BulletYou will have to find your own students and book your own classes.

  5. BulletYou will need to design and maintain your own website.

  6. BulletYou will need to order your own textbooks and certification cards.

  7. BulletASHI Instructor Application fee or renewal fees are not included with this option.

Course Completion Time: 16 Hours  (2 Days)

Successful completion is based on achievement of the core learning objectives and skills demonstration rather than a prescribed instruction time. Actual times may vary.

Certification Period: 2 Years

Continuing Requirement: Instructor must instruct a minimum of 4 courses per year, pay renewal dues to ASHI, and remain affiliated with a Training Center to remain current.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will receive an American Safety & Health Institute instructor certification in CPR/AED and First Aid or CPR for the Professional Rescuer/Healthcare Provider.

After completing this course, instructor candidates must successfully teach their first course while being monitored by an Instructor-Trainer in order to complete their credentialing as an ASHI instructor.

ASHI’s training programs are nationally recognized and are endorsed, accepted, approved, or meet the requirements of nearly 1000 state regulatory agencies and occupational licensing boards, including those licensing Emergency Medical Service providers, physicians, pharmacists, dental health professionals, child care providers, law enforcement officers, school teachers, and many others.

ASHI’s resuscitation programs for basic and advanced life support conform to national standards and are based on the same scientific guidelines and treatment recommendations used by the American Heart Association (AHA) and American Red Cross (ARC) for course development. ASHI professional resuscitation programs meet the requirements of the Joint Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services.

ASHI resuscitation programs are nationally approved by the Continuing Education Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS), and are accepted as equivalent to the AHA and ARC by most state regulatory authorities, the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, and others.
