Basic Life Support (BLS) For Healthcare Providers is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.

This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

This course teaches CPR at the healthcare provider level, it does not include first aid training or certification. If you also need first aid certification, please see our Heartsaver First Aid course. This course is also available as an Online Blended Learning Course.

AUDIENCE: The course is intended for certified or non-certified, licensed or non-licensed healthcare professionals.

CERTIFICATION: American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers Course Completion Card is valid for two years.

In the classroom, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also complete a written exam.

Course Completion Time:

Approximately: 4.5 - 6 Hours

Successful completion is based on achievement of the core learning objectives, written examination, and skills demonstration rather than a prescribed instruction time. Actual times may vary.

Recertification course requires that all participants have a valid, unexpired American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers certification card. If a valid, unexpired card can not be produced the participant will be required to attend a full certification course.
